Everything of Tianjin is good for local people. For example, “Made in Tianjin” must be marked by vendors no matter what they sell. This “native” complex makes Tianjin people innocent and lovely.
In Tianjin people’s opinion, everything they are proud of is “treasure”. Therefore, let’s talk about the following three treasures that Tianjin people are always proud of, “Drum Tower, Battery and Bell Pavilion”.
It’s bell but drum tolled on drum tower
The first treasure is Drum Tower which was built during Hongzhi Period of Ming Dynasty. On the tower, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the old Tianjin city, which deserves to be a wonderful scenery of Tianjin.
After reconstruction, the couplet of Drum Tower (written by Mei Xiaoshu) was rewritten by famous calligrapher Hua Shikui to recover the former style.

Protective Screen of Tianjin: Dagukou Battery
In Chongzhen 12th Year of Ming Dynasty (1639), seven batteries were built around Tianjin city. There used to be a poem written by Zhang Zhiqi in which the seven batteries were described to be one of the “Eight Sceneries of Tianjin”.
The site of Dagukou Battery is also called the “Protective Screen of Tianjin”. It is the witness of the anti aggression history of China which has been rated as major national historical and cultural site and the patriotism education base of Tianjin.

Bell Pavilion (Lingdang Gao)
There used to be a depositarry of Buddhist texts in Tianjin. Because bells were equipped on every pavilion angle, it was also called Bell Pavilion by local people.
In 1901, the site of Bell Pavilion was reconstructed to be a new type middle school – Bell Pavilion Middle School.
Address: intersection of Jieyuan West Street and Qingnian Road, Hongqiao District, Tianjin.
These three treasures of Tianjin is inheriting the spirit and temperament of Tianjin for generations.
